Alison Farrell, PhD, is a senior editor at the biomedical research journal Nature Medicine, where she evaluates and manages the external peer review of primary research submissions to the journal in the fields of infectious disease, hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantation and cancer immunotherapy. She obtained her Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco studying cell cycle regulation, and was a postdoctoral fellow at LeukoSite, Inc. and at Harvard Medical School, before joining Nature Medicine as the cancer editor in 2001. In her role at Nature Medicine, in addition to evaluating scientific research and coordinating the peer review and publication of research manuscripts, she organizes international scientific conferences, writes perspectives and editorials on science and science policy, and gives presentations on science publishing and communication.
