Before joining the AAS in January 2017, Elizabeth Marincola was CEO of PLOS, publisher of the world’s largest open access journal. At AAS, she is leading development and launch of AAS Open, an innovative, transparent publishing platform, as serves on the Steering Committee for the Coalition for African Research and Innovation (CARI.) She was President of the (U.S.) Society for Science and the Public, Publisher of Science News magazine, and Executive Director of the American Society for Cell Biology. She has served on the Board of Directors of eLife and received the (U.S.) Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Humanitarian Health and on the Strategic Planning Committee for the (U.S.) National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine. She received her A.B. from Stanford University and MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business
