I obtained a B.S. in Biology from Boston University in 2013. Interested in the mechanisms of metabolism and the biology of aging, I began studying mitochondrial physiology in the Shirihai Lab in 2015. Currently, I am studying how mitochondria sense the nutrient status of their surroundings and how changes in the availability of glucose, fat, and other oxidizable substrates affect mitochondrial motility, fusion, and fission. To visualize mitochondria at high spatiotemporal resolution, I specialize in confocal and Airyscan microscopy. After completing my doctoral dissertation, I plan to continue studying how the dynamic changes in mitochondrial movement and shape affect the health of the cell and, more generally, the entire organism. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy, among other things, cooking, running, and traveling.
