Dr Gawrei N.L.Galappathtthy is a medical doctor from Sri Lanka, with more than 20 years’ experience in planning, monitoring, implementing malaria control/elimination activities in National Malaria Control Programme in Sri Lanka under the Ministry of Health. She is currently working as a medical officer, Elimination Unit, Global Malaria Programme, WHO HQ, Geneva. She is mainly responsible for supporting countries to achieve malaria elimination especially for 21 potential countries who can reach zero indigenous cases by 2020. Prior to this, she worked as the team leader, malaria, other vector borne diseases and parasite diseases at WHO country office, Vietnam. She is responsible for supporting Vietnam National Malaria Control Programme in implementing the Emergency response to Artemisinin Resistance in Vietnam, providing technical inputs, donor coordination. She holds MBBS degree and MSc and MD in Public Health from the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Dr Gawrie joined the WHO since 2012 (initially at WCO Myanmar) and is an expert in malaria epidemiology, surveillance, M &E, drug policy, case and programme management as well as NTDs and malaria research
