Marcus V.G. Lacerda, PhD is a physician and Director of Research at the Tropical Medicine Foundation Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado (FMT-HVD) in Manaus, Brazil. He has more than 14 years’ experience working on the clinical aspects of malaria and its pathogenesis. Over the past decade, he has led a reference center for malaria research, known today as the International Center of Clinical Research in Malaria (CIPCliM). The group collaborates with many groups across the world (US, Spain, Portugal, Australia, India, Papua New Guinea, Colombia, Peru) and is focused on the technology transfer to the Brazilian Amazon through the training of local PhDs and postdocs. Visiting researchers from all over the world spend some time in Manaus, where they co-develop their research on pathogenesis, clinical immunology and entomology. In the recent years, I have also been devoted to the understanding of the gaps for the elimination of malaria in Brazil. Collaborating with MESA initiative, PAHO, WWARN and MALERA, I have been discussing the South American practicalities of eradicating malaria.

Dr. Lacerda earned his MD from University of Brasília and his PhD in Tropical Medicine from the University of Brasília and New York University.
