Mabel Laline Taracena PhD

Mabel Taracena is a postdoctoral researcher at the CDC-Foundation and has focused her work on basic and applied research for the control of infectious tropical diseases. She was born in Guatemala, where she obtained her bachelor degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Del Valle University (UVG). Later on, she trained and obtained her Masters and Ph.D., also in Biochemistry, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil. During most of her career, she has been part of multi-center projects, including UVG, UFRJ, Simon Fraser University, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Johns Hopkins University, amongst others. Her publications reflect her research interests in Chagas disease, dengue virus and malaria vector control. She hopes that current research on innovative methods for vector control of these and other diseases will improve the living conditions of millions of people living in countries that, as her own, are deeply affected by tropical neglected diseases.
