Editor and Journal Manager attending this meeting

Andrew Gewirtz, Specialty Chief Editor- Microbiome in Health and Disease section

Dr. Gewirtz earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1996 from Boston University School of Medicine. He did postdoctoral studies at Brigham and Women's Hospital/HMS and Emory University, where he later served on faculty from 2000-2011 as Assistant and Associate Professor. In 2011, he relocated his lab to Georgia State University's Institute for Biomedical Sciences' Center for Inflammation, Immunity and Infection, where he holds the title of Distinguished University Center Professor. His research focuses on host-microbe interactions in the intestine, particularly in the context of chronic inflammatory and metabolic diseases. Dr. Gewirtz has published over 150 articles in this area and serves on numerous review panels.

Kenneth Bruce, Specialty Chief Editor- Microbiome in Health and Disease section

Sophie Ferguson, Journal Manager- Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology

Sophie Ferguson graduated from the University of St Andrews for both a BSc (Hons) Cell Biology and her PhD, completing the latter in the School of Medicine investigating the parasite-host interactions of microsporidial infections. Following this, she joined Frontiers in 2018, becoming the Journal Manager for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology in 2019.
