Frontiers in Tropical Diseases is a collaborative and multidisciplinary journal publishing cutting-edge research on the pathophysiology and control of diseases that occur solely or predominantly in tropical regions of the world with a focus on integrative prevention, control and treatment methods as well as the challenges associated with them in the most vulnerable populations. By bringing together international input across all disciplines of tropical medicine involving clinicians, parasitologists, entomologists, infectious diseases specialists, epidemiologists, policy experts, health economists and medical anthropologists in one place, we aim to provide a comprehensive and open access platform on the latest research in tropical diseases.

The Major Tropical Diseases section of Frontiers in Tropical Diseases will explore the mechanisms, epidemiology and multipdisciplinary research into the major tropical diseases of the 21st century, including malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, cholera, hepatitis and diarrheal diseases.

Bruno Bezerril Andrade, Specialty Chief Editor, Major Tropical Diseases – Frontiers in Tropical Diseases

Bruno Bezerril Andrade is a Senior Researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil. His research is dedicated to identifying reliable host biomarkers that can predict susceptibility to infection and disease severity in a wide range of diseases such as malaria, leishmaniasis, tuberculosis and HIV. Himself and his network of collaborators have been able to design and establish large cohort studies in which synchronisation of clinical and immunologic data collection results in validation of biomarker findings across countries.

Francesca Dickens, Journal Launch Manager – Health and Biomed, Frontiers

Francesca graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham, UK. She has over 4 years of scientific publishing experience and has worked on a range of journals, covering topics from oncology to public health. Francesca is currently responsible for journal launches within the Health and Biomed portfolio at Frontiers.
