Pioneering neuroscientist Marc Tessier-Lavigne became Stanford University‚Äôs 11th president on September 1, 2016. He returned to Stanford after serving as president of The Rockefeller University, a graduate biomedical research university in New York City. From 2001 to 2005,  he was a professor of biological sciences at Stanford, where he held the Susan B. Ford Professorship in the Humanities and Sciences. He has also held faculty positions at the  University of California, San Francisco, and executive positions, including Chief Scientific Officer at Genentech.
