Penny Moore PhD

Penny Moore PhD, is a Senior Scientist and Wellcome Trust Fellow in Public Health and Tropical Medicine at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) of the National Health Laboratory Services, a Reader at the University of the Witwatersrand and a Research Associate at CAPRISA, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She obtained her PhD in Virology (Medicine) at the University of London in 2003 before joining the NICD. Her research, largely on the CAPRISA cohorts, focuses on HIV neutralizing antibodies and their interplay with the evolving virus. Recent studies have highlighted the role of viral escape in creating new epitopes and immunotypes, thereby driving the development of neutralization breadth.
