Erwei Song is Professor of Department of Breast Surgery at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, “Cheung Kong Scholar" Chair Professor, Distinguished Professor of China Medical Board (CMB) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK). Currently, he serves as Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine and President of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital at Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Song has focused his research on the microenvironment of malignant tumors, mainly on breast cancers, and unraveled the regulatory mechanisms of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) related to tumor microenvironment. He has published 156 research articles in SCI-indexed journals, including Nature, Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Immunology, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Cell Biology, Science Translational Medicine, Cell Research and so on. The total citation frequency is more than 11000 so far. As a corresponding author, one of his articles has been cited 1423 times. Also, he is leading six ongoing national research projects, and serves as the associate editor for BMC Cancer, Cancer Science and Science China-Life Science. His research work was selected as Top Ten Scientific and Technological Breakthrough by the Ministry of Education in China in 2008 and 2018, respectively. He has received numerous honors, including the “Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award” in 2013, and the “National Natural Science Award” by the State Council of China in 2015, etc. In 2020, he received the National Innovation Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the JCA International Award from Japanese Cancer Association, and the TWAS Award in Medical Sciences.
