Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Functional Antibody Discovery

Location: Merck Research Lab, South San Francisco, California, United States of America

Job Description

Be a part of the legacy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program

Our Research Laboratories’ Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.

What You'll Be Doing:

As a member of the Exploratory Biology Group, you will apply antibody screening and engineering technologies to explore how antibodies can mimic endogenous ligands to activate cell surface receptors and induce disease relevant cellular signaling.

Broad expertise in molecular/cellular biology and structure/function guided protein design is required to achieve the project goals. Experience in high content screening such as phage/yeast/mammalian display would be favorable. You will design, evaluate and execute on screening strategies to capture antibodies that have desired functions; perform validation experiments and explore the mechanistic underpinnings and versatility of antibody-mediated receptor activation. You will advance the project independently as well as in conjunction with collaborators in the organization.

What You Need:

  • Candidates must currently hold a PhD OR receive a PhD by fall of 2021.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of cell/molecular biology and cell-based assays using cell lines or primary cells
  • Experience with protein engineering and structure/function analyses and familiarity with structure viewing software (Pymol, MOE)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a multidisciplinary research environment

It's Great If You Have:

  • Experience with immunology and immuno-oncology
  • Experience with phage, yeast or mammalian display
  • Experience with NGS antibody sequence analysis
  • Experience in signal transduction
  • Experience in working with animal disease models
