Mark Hlatky, MD, is a Professor of Health Research and Policy and of Medicine at Stanford University, and is Director of Health Services Research Master’s Degree Program. He received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. His interests are in outcomes research, evidencebased medicine, and cost-effectiveness analysis. He pioneered the collection of data on economic and quality of life outcomes as part of randomized trials. He has also developed decision models to assess the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of clinical strategies. Dr. Hlatky has been awarded both the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association and the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American College of Cardiology.
